Detroit Lions Remain Confident in Chris Houston

Will the Detroit Lions target a cornerback with their first round pick? Whether it be Oklahoma State’s Justin Gilbert or Michigan State’s Darqueze Dennard, it has been a popular pick for the team in a number of early mock drafts.

The Lions already have a number of young corners on the roster in Darius Slay, Bill Bentley, Chris Greenwood and Jonte Green. With none able to be considered a finished product, adding another young corner seems premature. If you’re looking at Chris Houston as a target to be replaced, Martin Mayhew shot that down when speaking with the media at the NFL Combine today:

It is clear the Lions will rely on Houston in 2014 and unless they are ready to give up on one of their young corners, looking elsewhere in the 2014 first round is likely – no matter what the mock drafts say.
