The Detroit Lions released Louis Delmas to free up some salary cap space but didn’t totally close the door on him returning on a less expensive deal. Delmas has already spoken with teams and is expected to make more visits after the combine.
As part of his combine press conference, head coach Jim Caldwell touched on the subject of Delmas:
Caldwell on possibility of S Louis Delmas returning to Lions: "I think in this business you never say never, but we'll see what happens."

“Never say never” sounds an awful lot like “never” in this case. We will indeed see what happens but Lions fans shouldn’t expect Delmas to return in 2014.
That means the Lions will have to be active in finding a replacement. Glover Quin returns as one starting safety and while they re-signed Don Carey, he won’t be given anything more than the opportunity to compete for playing time.
