There is no question that Joique Bell will be back with the Detroit Lions next season. The question is, will he be with the team beyond that?
Set to become a restricted free agent, the Lions are expected to tender a contract that will set possible compensation at a second round level. That should be enough to scare away any would-be suitors while giving Bell a nice raise. For his part, Bell is already talking about wanting to work out a long-term deal.
I do understand I’m a restricted free agent and I understand how the business works and I would like to just bypass all of this and sign a long-term deal.
With the way the tandem backfield of Bell and Reggie Bush worked last season, it stands to reason that the Lions would like to see Bell stick around beyond next season. A three-year deal would take Bell through age 30 and line up with the expiration of the four-year deal Bush signed with the Lions prior to last season.
