Ken Whisenhunt to Interview with Three Teams, Including Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions coaching job has been reported as Ken Whisenhunt’s to lose. It isn’t known if that feeling is reciprocated as the Lions aren’t the only team interested in interviewing Whisenhunt for their head coaching vacancy.

The Lions will indeed get an opportunity to interview Whisenhunt this week but so too will two others, as reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter.

That’s a pretty busy schedule for an offensive coordinator preparing for a playoff game against the Denver Broncos.

Whisenhunt was a finalist for the Browns job a year ago, the place where he was also a tight ends coach in 1999.

How Whisenhunt views each job is likely to come down to how he views each quarterback situation. The Browns offer the chance to start over with a young quarterback with an early first round pick but considering Whisenhunt’s work with veterans like Kurt Warner and Philip Rivers, Matthew Stafford should be very enticing given his physical abilities.

We may get a clearer sense of where Whisenhunt stands with each of the three teams after the interviews have taken place. No matter what happens, he can’t be hired until after the Chargers are knocked out of the playoffs.
