The Detroit Lions are likely to interview Ken Whisenhunt in San Diego on Thursday, according to a report by ESPN.
While escaping the current weather in Michigan sounds like a good plan by the Lions front office, the time and location of the interview is at the discretion of the San Diego Chargers. With the team preparing for another playoff game, Whisenhunt traveling to Detroit isn’t a realistic option.
The ESPN report also says that an interview with Mike Munchak was rescheduled for today, making him the third candiate to interview after Jim Caldwell last Friday and Gary Kubiak yesterday.
Whisenhunt has widely been considered the front-runner but don’t be surprised to hear of more interviews after tomorrow. Cincinnati Bengals offensive coordinator may also be on the interview list as the Lions reportedly sought permission from the Bengals to interview him. The Lions said they would be thorough and there really isn’t any rush considering they can’t hire Whisenhunt until the Chargers are knocked out of the playoffs anyway. Getting the interview is all they could do this week; we may see the process accelerate if the Chargers lose to the Broncos on Sunday.
