It comes as no surprise but the Detroit Lions have reportedly requested permission to interview San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt.
The Skins, Lions, Vikings and Titans all requested permission to interview Ken Whisenhunt. Same teams as Jay Gruden. Both well positioned

With the Chargers still alive in the playoffs, they can choose to deny the request, although that would be surprising. One important thing to note is that NFL rules prohibit a team from picking and choosing which other teams they give permission to. So, if four request, as the report states, all four will either have permission granted or all four will be denied.
That being said, actually going through four interviews during the week leading up to a Divisional round playoff game is an awful lot. It is likely that only one or two of the teams that requested permission will actually get an audience with Whisenhunt. What happens this week will say a lot about how Whisenhunt views each opening as he picks and chooses which interview to take and which to put off or downright decline.
While with permission the Lions will be able to interview Whisenhunt this week, they can’t hire him until the Chargers playoff run comes to an end.
