Detroit Lions 2014 NFL Draft Watch List: BBVA Compass Bowl

The college bowl system may be watered down but it does provide for a final look at a number of players ahead of the 2014 NFL Draft. Here is the bowl schedule for today, as well as a look at a few players to watch who could be on the Detroit Lions’ radar come May.

BBVA Compass Bowl
Vanderbilt vs. Houston
1 p.m. ET, ESPN

Jordan Matthews, Vanderbilt, Wide Receiver – The Lions need to address the wide receiver position, particularly with someone who can play on the outside. Matthews can do just that with the versatility to line up inside as well. Even with a strong wide receiver class in the upcoming draft, Matthews wouldn’t be out of place to be strongly considered with the Lions’ second round pick.

Kanny Ladler, Vanderbilt, Safety – Louis Delmas was able to stay healthy in 2013 but his 2014 cap number means his return to the Lions is not a given. Ladler could be an option in the third or fourth round.

Andre Hal, Vanderbilt, Cornerback – Decent size at 5-11, 186 but likely nothing more than a late day three pick.

Zachary McMillian, Houston, Cornerback – A little smaller than Vanderbilt’s Hal at 5-10, 178. Could be a late pick, but also may go undrafted.
