Did yesterday’s news that the Detroit Lions were doing some behind the scenes investigation in to Tom Cable get you up in arms? DetroitLions.com’s Tim Twentyman is tweeting you off the ledge:
I've been told by a source the Lions do not have interest in Seattle's Tom Cable as a head coaching candidate.

It is interesting to note that Twentyman specificially mentions the head coaching position so it is possible the Lions have some interest in Cable for another coaching position but even that would seem unlikely. Cable is reportedly among the most valuable Seahawks assistants and whoever becomes the Lions next coach is likely to spearhead the effort to round out his staff.
More than likely the Lions were collecting information as part of their initial due diligence. Head coaching searches start with long list of names that get pared down over time with some trimming being done without ever talking to the candidate. Consider Cable trimmed.
