The Detroit Lions’ coaching search is just getting started and it looked for a while like they might miss out on one of this year’s hottest names. ESPN’s Chris Mortensen reported yesterday that a deal between the Houston Texans and Bill O’Brien was imminent and expected to be completed within 24 hours.
That 24 hour period is nearly a close and news has not broken that a deal is in fact done. While there also isn’t any indication that a deal is off, there may still be a chance for the Lions.
Still every expectation Bill O'Brien is next HOU coach, but if it somehow went sideways, Lions (DET, not Nittany) would be ready to pounce

In addition to yesterday’s news that the Texans were in hot and heavy on O’Brien, NFL.com’s Gil Brandt referenced a surprise team.

It seems the Lions are never the “surprise team” but it is possible they are in this case given La Canfora’s tweet today. It makes sense considering the fate of Jim Schwartz was cloaked in secrecy until just before a team meeting yesterday.
