Detroit Lions at Minnesota Vikings: SLR Staff Predictions

For weeks, I’ve been predicting that the Lions would win, simply because they could and should win. That has not been an effective method of picking winners in these games, because the Lions have had the talent to beat all of the teams they lost to this season.

The Vikings are playing their final game in the Metrodome without Adrian Peterson, and with a quarterback situation that is no more stable now than it was 15 games ago. Neither team has much of anything to play for, and they’re both likely to be looking for new leadership in just a few days.

The Lions have the edge in basically every feasible area in this game, so naturally, I’m taking the Vikings, because that’s how this season has gone. Unless, of course, they’re going to take it in the other direction and win a game now that the only thing it does for them is ruin their draft position. Lions 17, Vikings 27

Word on the street is that it’s possible neither Calvin Johnson nor Adrian Peterson will be playing in the season finally. What a perfect way for both of these teams to finish off their seasons. Both teams came into the year with playoff hopes and now both end without a prayer.

Both teams will be playing for pride and possibly the last time for their current head coaches. In this, the final game of another losing season, look out to see how guys compete. If the Lions players say they are behind Schwartz, pay close attention to how hard of an effort they put forth.

The Vikings are a team they should beat, even on the road. A road win will give them an 8-8 record and a loss could almost seal them with their fourth top 10 under the Schwartz regime. Lions 21, Vikings 10

Ugh.  A defeated Lions team.  A coach on his way out the door.  An injured Calvin Johnson.  A stadium where the Lions have had one win since 1995, and a seemingly inspired Vikings club.

This year’s Lions team has shown time and again that they are far too mentally weak to step up deliver when the recipe includes those types of ingredients.  The Lions lose the Metrodome’s final game, improve their draft standing and send Schwartz packing. Lions 20,Vikings 27
