Inactives for Detroit Lions vs. New York Giants

With their season on the line, the Detroit Lions are about to be playing a little shorthanded.

There are a few surprises here. Chris Houston and Rashean Mathis being inactive means the Lions are without both their starting corners this week.

What does that mean for the Lions’ starting lineup?

Brandon Pettigrew’s injury is apparently severe enough for the Lions to have deactivated him this week, which means Joe Fauria and Dorin Dickerson will be the top options at tight end this week.

This also means that injury report regulars Darius Slay, Calvin Johnson and Reggie Bush are all active. If the Lions are going to be a factor at all for the rest of this season, they need to get their offense kick-started.

For the New York Giants, here are the inactives.

The Lions’ depleted secondary gets a bit of an assist because of the absence of Victor Cruz for the Giants, but it is still a point of concern. On the other side of the ball, the Giants are without Jason Pierre-Paul, one of their leading pass-rushers.

Not much else here is much of a surprise. Running back Peyton Hillis is out for the Giants, but that’s likely a non-issue.

The Lions may be a bit shorthanded, but not so much that they have excuses for losing. This is the game they need to win with whoever they put on the field, and then maybe, just maybe, we can think about playoffs.
