The reason NFL Power Rankings exist is because they’re a more interesting way to judge teams than just staring at the standings. That means sometimes it’s necessary to look beyond a team’s record to place them.

Sometimes you think you see something special in a team, and you give them a bump up the rankings because they took down some of the league’s best teams in impressive fashion. And sometimes they make you look silly for doing that by losing by 30 to the Rams, so they need to be dropped to a more appropriate place to think about what they’ve done.

So that’s where we are right now. The second half of the season is where we some teams start to figure things out, and others get figured out. This is more colloquially known as “separating the contenders from the pretenders.” And right on cue, a bunch of top 10 teams have helped us along in doing just that.

So contrary to the last few weeks, we’re going to see major changes among the top 10, and given the way the NFL works, it won’t be the last time.
