Overall

Hill is the ideal backup. He’s efficient, takes care of the football, and doesn’t really have any designs on being the starter or creating a controversy. He’s the model of stability.

Hill never gets talked about when Stafford has a bad game, but if he has to come in, it isn’t a sign of impending disaster. In fact, when he came in last year against Tennessee, he engineered a miraculous comeback.

Could he do something like that again this year? Who knows? He hasn’t even been asked to grab a helmet in the first eight games, and if all goes as planned, he won’t in the last eight (or more) game, either. He’s just a really good insurance policy. It will be interesting to see if the Lions re-sign him this offseason, or if they opt for this next guy…
