Tony Scheffler was a productive member of the Detroit Lions passing game in 2011 but has struggled to contribute since. A concussion suffered against the Green Bay Packers has kept him out of action the past two weeks. According to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press, Scheffler has been cleared to return but the Lions are preparing to move on without him.
The #Lions are making a roster move with Tony Scheffler today, either releasing or putting on IR. He was cleared to return from concussion

Scheffler’s future with the team isn’t likely to hinge on their decision to release him or stash him on injured reserve. His contract is up at the end of the year anyway it has looked increasingly unlikely the team would seek to retain him. Now it is just a question of timing.
