Detroit Lions Game Ball an Easy Decision for Week 5

The Detroit Lions’ player of the game in their week five loss to the Green Bay Packers may not be an obvious choice, but it turned out to be an easy choice.

In fact, this week’s SideLion Report game ball goes to a player who has played well all season and hasn’t received as much attention as he deserves. When you talk about the best outside linebackers in the game, DeAndre Levy‘s name won’t come up, but his play so far in 2013 has been worthy of such talk. Levy has been among the highest rated 4-3 outside linebackers according to Pro Football Focus and yesterday’s game did nothing to change that.

Levy was the team’s leading tackler with 14, including 11 solo tackles, 3 tackles for loss and a pass defended when he batted away a wide receiver screen.

The Lions had a choice to make last year with salary cap constraints and Levy and Justin Durant set to become free agents. I thought the Lions made a mistake by choosing Levy over Durant and am happy to admit that I couldn’t have been more wrong.
