The writing was on the wall when Calvin Johnson was announced as a surprise inactive before this game. His absence changed the complexion of a game in which the Lions defense actually held the Packers offense mostly in check.
What we’ve learned from the Lions is that when they miss one of their key pieces on offense, the whole unit underperforms. With Johnson and Nate Burleson on the bench, the Lions might have fielded the worst receiver unit in football. The defense made some strides and kept Aaron Rodgers off-balance, but the offense never put any pressure on the Packers, so they were able to coast on field goals.
The Lions will hope to get Johnson back and regroup for next week, when they take on the surprisingly hot Cleveland Browns.
