Detroit Lions WR Nate Burleson Breaks Arm in Late Night Car Crash

The Detroit Lions offense found a nice rhythm in their win over the Washington Redskins on Sunday. Calvin Johnson and Nate Burleson both went for over 100 yards receiving.

On the heels of those good feels comes bad news. It’s the Lions we’re talking about, something was bound to happen. Details are just starting to surface but Nate Burleson was reportedly involved in an early-morning car accident that left him with a broken arm that will require surgery:

Ryan Broyles was being eased back into action after suffering an ACL tear late last season but he will now have to be counted on as the team’s full-time slot receiver. The Lions will also likely get involved in the trade market with Cleveland’s Josh Gordon the big name to watch. Gordon comes with a lot of baggage and the threat of a year-long suspension if he finds more trouble off the field. The Lions may choose to turn to Matt Willis, who performed well for them in training camp, or another free agent receiver.

Burleson leads the team through three games with 19 receptions.

There isn’t any word yet how long this will keep Burleson out. Surgery will be performed today but the Lions will have a big decision to make with what to do with Burleson. Putting him on injured reserve would end his season because the team already used their one designation to return on Montell Owens.
