The Detroit Lions have been busy working the phones to get a feel for the trade market with Nate Burleson suffering a broken arm as a result of a late night car crash.

While it is obvious they are looking to make a move, whether by trade or free agent signing, the Lions have no plans to put Burleson on injured reserve. At least at this point.

Jim Schwartz wasn’t originally scheduled to meet with the media today but held a 12:30 p.m. press conference to address the Burleson situation.

Finally some good news in what is a strange situation. If the Lions can swing a reasonable deal and get Burleson back, their wide receiver situation will be better off than it was to start the season – especially with Ryan Broyles gaining strength.

The Lions already have a TE on short term IR, so that leaves IR for the year, and then have a placement for their rooster , or leave him on the roster and hope he comes back quickly, but that means your playing with one short on the roster for 8 to 9 weeks. I don’t think at his age Nate will be back before 9 weeks. That leaves the Lions to find a replacement at WR quickly before the Bears game.
