Detroit Lions Lose DE Jason Jones for Rest of Season in Win Over Redskins

The Detroit Lions got a win over the Redskins today but they lost a starting defensive end in the process.

Jason Jones was carted off the field and the injury is serious. DetroitLions.com’s Tim Twentyman reports it was a ruptured patellar tendon and Jones will be out the rest of the year.

The loss of Jones provides a big opportunity for rookie Devin Taylor who has been inactive for two of the three weeks so far. With Jones out of the lineup, Taylor will likely not only be a regular on the active gameday roster, but also figures to get regular snaps as part of the defense.

Jones’ season will be officially over when the Lions place him on injured reserve. At that point they will be able to fill his spot on the roster. One name to keep in mind is Lawrence Jackson. He left the Lions for the Vikings via free agency but didn’t survive final cuts and remains a free agent.

I say package Mikel and Pettigew, for a serviceable Defensive End. Fauria looks good so far and only going to get better, and also cutting some cap space in the process.

Our deepest position, but it’s a big loss. Would like to see Idonije start against the Bears, though heavy rotation makes “who starts” a lesser factor. Ansah is some athlete, huh?
