Detroit Lions Depth Chart: Schwartz Remains Noncommittal on Right Side of Offensive Line

When the Detroit Lions host the Minnesota Vikings in five days they will have a starting right tackle and right guard. That’s about all we know, or at least all Jim Schwartz is willing to say right now.

While Birkett adds that Fox and Warford were taking first-team reps in today’s practice, that isn’t exactly what the depth chart on the team’s official web site tells us.

Fox and Warford have been the presumed starters for much of the preseason schedule. The depth chart lists Fox as the starter at right tackle but it is Dylan Gandy, not Warford, who is listed as the starting right guard. The Lions website makes it very clear that the depth chart published to the public is very much unofficial. The expectation that Warford will be the starting right guard in week one and the fact he is still practicing with the first team proves the point.

I too am skeptical. Gandy, an eight year veteran, has been a Lion for four years and couldn’t get on the field, and now suddenly he’s starter material? Rookie Warford, OTOH, is a mauler who is kicking butt already, yet he’s nowhere near his ceiling. They’d be crazy to not start him.
