The Detroit Lions were quiet on the roster cut front yesterday while other NFL teams got about the business of whittling down their roster.
The Lions face a 6 p.m. ET deadline to get their roster down from 75 players to just 53.
Some decisions will be easy – cutting punter Blake Clingan while keeping Sam Martin, for instance – while others figure to be more difficult.
The interior of the offensive line is one area where the Lions have some tough decisions to make, particularly as it relates to veteran guards like Jake Scott and Leroy Harris.
It is possible the Lions are delaying their cuts to work the phone lines with teams who could a player at a position the Lions find themselves with solid depth.
Evaluating the team’s injury situation is another area that could impact how the Lions go about making cuts. Will they use injured reserve-designated to return to free up a roster spot?
Lots of interesting situations to play out over the course of the day. Stay tuned.
