A Green Bay Packers player saying something nice about a couple of Detroit Lions? Yep, that is one of the things that came out of Peter King’s sit-down with Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.
The Lions are looking for big things out of their defensive line this year and that starts with Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley being as disruptive as possible.
It is unlikely Rodgers is scared of any defender, but when asked about the competition, Rodgers was quick to mention both Suh and Fairley:
Jared Allen is probably the best pass rusher I face, but the two guys starting to give us real issues are Ndamukong Suh and Nick Fairley. Really good players. Bright futures.
You may notice Rodgers uses “us” instead of “me”, suggesting the Suh-Fairley duo leads to issues for the entire Packers offense rather than just him personally. That isn’t exactly throwing his offensive line under the bus but their struggles to protect Rodgers lead to issue against just about any team. Still, it is high praise from the guy who might just be the best quarterback in the game right now.
Nick Fairley’s highest 2012 game rating from Pro Football Focus came in the Lions home game against the Packers. In that game he spent a lot of time in Rodgers’ face, credited by PFF with two sacks, one quarterback hit and three quarterback hurries.
