Detroit Lions Preseason Opener: Delmas, Broyles Among Players Held Out

The Detroit Lions have announced the list of player who will not take part in tonight’s preseason opener. A lot of eyes have been on the knees of Louis Delmas and Ryan Broyles but neither will play tonight as precautionary measures.

The Lions have routinely limited Delmas throughout training camp so the news comes as little surprise. However, Broyles has missed just one practice in his return from a torn ACL. That being said, playing in the first preseason game is all risk and no reward so it is hard to fault the Lions for being cautious.

Ron Bartell is also out, clearing the way for rookie cornrerback Darius Slay to start in his first NFL outing. Fellow corners Jonte Green and Chris Greenwood will also be sidelined – hamstring issues have limited those two through parts of training camp.

Israel Idonije and Leroy Harris will not make their Lions debuts tonight as they round out the list of players who will not face the New York Jets.
