Stephen Tulloch Compares Ziggy Ansah to Jevon Kearse

The Detroit Lions took a risk with their selection of Ziggy Ansah with the fifth pick of the 2013 NFL Draft but they will be richly rewarded if the move pays off.

The ultimate ‘potential over production’ pick, Ansah immediately drew comparisons to Jason Pierre-Paul after the draft. The comparison was natural considering JPP also entered the NFL with limited football experience and has since flourished as a defensive end for the New York Giants.

Lions linebacker Stephen Tulloch made a comparison of his own today, telling reporters Ansah reminds him of a young Jevon Kearse.

Nicknamed ‘The Freak’, Kearse burst onto the scene with 14.5 sacks as a rookie. That wound up being the highest sack total of his career although he did rack up 74 total sacks in 133 career games.

We shouldn’t expect 14.5 sacks out of Ansah this year, even Tulloch admitted Ansah is raw as he made the comparison, but that’s high praise coming from a player like Tulloch. Kearse had already moved on to the Philadelphia Eagles by the time the Titans drafted Tulloch, but the two did play together for two seasons when Kearse returned to Tennessee to finish his career.
