Detroit Lions in Full Pads on Third Day of Training Camp

One of the points Detroit Lions head coach Jim Schwartz made during his pre-training camp press conference was that the team would be in pads a little more than last year’s camp. After starting 2013 training camp with two practices without pads, the Lions are fully suiting up for this morning’s session.

It’s something Reggie Bush is obviously excited about according to his tweet this morning:

First day of full pads can’t wait to get out there on the field and get to it! Now the fun starts

Putting on the pads suggest’s today’s practice will be more physical than the previous two days. Injuries haven’t been a big story during Lions camp so far but all eyes have been on Louis Delmas as he deals with what now seems to be chronic knee issues. Delmas was limited on Friday, practicing only about 30 minutes while wearing a knee brace. He was held out of practice on Saturday but was still wearing the brace as he watched and assisted with drills rather than taking part.

But as the Lions up the intensity Delmas appears ready to go along with his team as he emerged from the locker room in full pads with only a sleeve on his knee.

Ron Bartell, Leroy Harris, Ronnell Lewis, Carmen Messina and Devin Thomas are not practicing today.
