Finally, some good news on the Louis Delmas injury front.

Speaking to the media today, Jim Schwartz said he did not expect Louis Delmas to start on the PUP list as training camp begins.

Now, that doesn’t mean you won’t hear reports about Delmas sitting out a practice here and there – that is part of the team’s strategy to keeping Delmas fresh and healthy.

Delmas is a veteran player and very familiar with what the Lions want to do on defense so there isn’t a concern about getting reps in that respect. However, Schwartz did mention the need for Delmas to get familiar with playing in tandem with Glover Quin.

Veteran players are reporting today and will be given medical checkups and conditioning tests. As long as Delmas clears those hurdles, which it sounds like he is expected to do, he will be able to get going right away.

We’ll see. I hope he’s injury free, but I have my doubts.
