The NFL offseason flows nearly seamlessly from Super Bowl to NFL Combine to Free Agency to NFL Draft to team minicamps only to have the action abruptly end near the end of June. This is the portion of the year when it feels like football might never return.
But take heart, my Detroit Lions brethren! Lions rookies now have less than three weeks until they report for training camp.
The NFL released reporting dates for all NFL teams yesterday and the Lions arrivals will take place in two waves.
First come the rookies on July 22 followed by the veterans on July 25. Based on previous training camp schedules, that sets up the team’s first on-field team workout of 2013 training camp on July 26.
See? Football isn’t really as far away from returning as it might seem.
We can expect the Lions to announce dates for practices that will be open to the public, including special days designated exclusively for season ticket holders.
The Lions’ first preseason game will be August 9 against the New York Jets at Ford Field. Ticket sales are currently limited to season ticket packages but individual tickets will go on sale later this Summer.
