Detroit Lions Start Signing 2013 Draft Class

With the Detroit Lions preparing for their rookie minicamp this weekend, it is no surprise we now start hearing word of members of their 2013 draft class agreeing to terms.

Under the terms of the current collective bargaining agreement, drafted rookies sign four-year contracts. Aaron Wilson of the Baltimore Sun/FOX Sports was the first to report four signings on twitter this afternoon.

The collective bargaining agreement’s slotting system makes rookie contracts pretty standard across the board so that even the top draft picks have little reason to hold out like they may have in the past. With millions of dollars no longer up for negotiation it makes sense to agree early to get that bonus money in hand (and then hopefully in the bank).
