2013 NFL Draft: The Detroit Lions Select Michael Williams

The Detroit Lions make their Eighth pick in the 2013 NFL Draft…

Who: Michael Williams
What: Tight End
Where: Alabama
When: Round 7, Pick 5 (211 Overall)
Why: The Detroit Lions lost their third string tight end Will Heller to free agency and found his replacement in the seventh round. He has great size at 6’5, 278 lbs and ran a 5.16 forty at Alabama’s pro day. Williams isn’t a barn burner by any stretch, but he’s an exceptional blocker with surprisingly good hands. He’ll challenge defenders on jump balls and be an effective route runner over the middle of the field. Last season at Alabama he caught 24 passes for 183 yards and four touchdowns. Expect to see him on the field in double tight end sets as a blocker and possibly as an H-back much like Will Heller.
