2013 NFL Draft: The Detroit Lions Select Brandon Hepburn

The Detroit Lions make their eighth pick in the 2013 NFL Draft…

Who: Brandon Hepburn
What: Linebacker
Where: Florida A&M
When: Round 7, Pick 39 (245 Overall compensatory)
Why: The Lions lost Justin Durant to the Cowboys in free agency and will be looking for his replacement. Hepburn, along with 2012 draft picks Tahir Whitehead and Travis Lewis should be in the mix for the open spot, but expect Hepburn to be primarily used on special teams in his first season. At Florida A&M last season Hepburn recorded seven pass break ups, 5.5 sacks, 86 tackles, and one forced fumble. At 6’2, 240 lbs, Hepburn has ideal size at linebacker and good speed running a 4.68 forty. He also put up 21 reps on the bench press. On a side note, Hepburn was a member of the National Honors Society and found a way to kill certain cancer cells in rates. With that said we can gather that he is pretty cerebral and should have good upside based on his size and measurables.
