The Detroit Lions have made their third pick of the 2013 NFL Draft…
Who: Larry Warford
What: Offensive Guard
When: Round 3, Pick 3 (65th Overall)
Why: Another great mix of need and a best player available approach. Rob Sims is entrenched as one starting guard but Stephen Peterman’s release opened up the other starting spot. With the Lions unable to land one of the draft’s top left tackles we can now pencil Riley Reiff in as the new protector of Matthew Stafford’s blind side while Larry Warford has the ability to immediately step into a starting role at guard. The Lions get great value with Warford at the top of the third round as it wouldn’t have been too much of a surprise had he been selected late in the first round. He may not be Chance Warmack or Jonathan Cooper but most scouting reports you’ll find don’t believe the difference is equal to the nearly two rounds that separate Warmack from the top guards in this class.
