If you’re inclined to believe anything in the final hours before the NFL Draft, NFL.com’s Albert Breer has a nugget this morning that is Detroit Lions related:
Detroit d-line coach Jim Washburn has taken a liking to Ansah, so clubs targeting Ansah below 5 could be looking for a deal with Philly at 4

The overwhelming feeling is the Eric Fisher is the player the Lions would most like to fall to them with the fifth overall pick but that is looking less likely by the hour. Could Ansah be the number one backup plan if Fisher is off the board? It certainly isn’t an off-the-wall thought based on the prevailing opinions expressed in a number of mock drafts.
The reason to not read too much into this report is that it isn’t surprising a defensive line coach would show a preference towards a player in his position group. While Washburn’s opinion will certainly be taken into account, he is at least a couple rungs down the ladder in terms of the Lions’ decision making process. I’m sure there is a name on the offensive side of the ball that Scott Linehan has taken a liking to, although no such report has been made.
Ansah was coached by Washburn and the Lions at the Senior bowl and was one of the game’s most impressive players despite a week of practice in which he was less than dominant.
