It’s the announcement Detroit Lions fans have all been waiting for and now it is official. Reggie Bush will be joining the Detroit Lions as the two sides have agreed to a deal, reportedly a four-year contract. A press conference has been schedule for 1:45 p.m. ET at the team’s facility.
There was a lot that went wrong for the Lions during the 2012 season but in some ways they were doomed from the start by failing to have a contingency plan in place for Jahvid Best. They though he would play, he didn’t, they suffered. Bush gives the Lions the multi-dimensional threat that they drafted Best to be.
Reports have come out suggesting the Lions were prepared to offer a starting role to Bush, instead of making him just a change of pace back behind Mikel Leshoure. Instead, figure on Bush to be on the field the majority of the time with the Lions bringing in the bigger back depending on the situation.
Bush carried the ball a little more than 14 times per game over the last two years with the Dolphins while adding an average of 2.5 catches per game. While his carry total might remain the same or eve drop a bit, Bush should see his touches increase through the air as the Lions look to get him in space to fully utilize his speed and athleticism. That should free up the field for the Lions other receiving threats.
With their top free agency target a done deal, the Lions figure to turn their attention to safety Glover Quin.
