The Detroit Lions haven’t typically been big players in the free agent market. That looked to be different this year with the front office indicating that they would be “selectively aggressive”. Since then, the Lions have been linked to big names like Reggie Bush and Dashon Goldson.
While the interest in Bush is likely very real, last night’s report that the Lions may be the leaders to sign Goldson came as a surprise given their lack of salary cap space. Do the Lions have more flexibility than anyone knows, or is it a sign some major contract restructures are in store? Maybe, but it also might be something far more basic.
Rotoworld’s Evan Silva is looking through the smoke and what he sees isn’t great news for Lions fans.
Obvious agents are using #Lions as “interested team” to pump clientele because Detroit has so many needs. Lions are bottom-10 in cap room.

If that’s the case, Lions fans could be in for a lot of disappointment as free agency officially opens this afternoon. With a three day window in which teams and agents could talk, but nothing could get officially done, there has been plenty of time for misinformation and half-truths to infiltrate the rumor mill. If Silva is right, the Lions have been the prime target as agents look to gain leverage for their clients.
