While some news and rumors surfaced, there wasn’t information to be gained over the weekend as the NFL opened up the lines of communication between teams and the agents of free agents ahead of tomorrow’s official opening of free agency. Even the great Peter King of Sports Illustrated admitted that front office personnel he is usually in contact with were on lockdown over the weekend.
Even so, the Detroit Lions and Arizona Cardinals have emerged as the two teams most often linked to Reggie Bush. King acknowleges as much in today’s Monday Morning Quarterback column on SI.com:
Arizona wants a running back, one NFC West source told me. It’s probably too rich for their blood, and I think he’ll end up with Detroit, but Reggie Bush is the perfect back for that offense.
Free agency opens tomorrow but just because it is open doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a flurry of activity. However, King names four teams he expects to ‘strike early’: the Browns, Dolphins, Colts and Lions.
For the Browns, that could mean a deal with Cliff Avril while the Dolphins are the front-runners for Mike Wallace. For the Lions, that likely means Reggie Bush. We’re getting closer and closer to the start of free agency and the Reggie Bush rumors seem to only be intensifying.
Not everyone sees the Lions as the front-runner however. Omar Kelly covers the Miami Dolphins for the Sun-Sentinel and he is hearing something different:
Reggie Bush is competing with a few free agent tailbacks. But he’ll pick between Denver, Arizona and Detroit. I hear Denver is the leader.
