ESPN SportsNation has kicked off this year’s voting tournament that will determine the cover athlete for the next edition of the popular Madden video game franchise.
There some differences this year, starting with the game’s title. The next edition will be called Madden 25 as EA Sports has moved away from tagging the title with a year.
The other difference is in the setup of the tournament bracket. One side is filled with a former star from each team with the other half of the bracket filled with a current star from each team.
The Lions are represented by Barry Sanders (a three seed, up against the Chicago Bears‘ Ron Rivera) and Matthew Stafford (a nine seed, up against Doug Martin)
Round one voting takes place today through March 20. Vote here.
As with every year this will spark another round of talk about the supposed Madden Curse. All I can do there is point you to what I wrote last year as Calvin Johnson was making his way through the voting.
