If the Detroit Lions are to re-sign Louis Delmas and count on him as a significant contributor to their defense, they had better be sure that the injury problems that have plagued Delmas over the last two seasons are not chronic issues.
While the fact that Delmas has been unable to play in all 16 games in any of his four season as a professional should be enough to keep him from getting the full value of what he is worth when healthy, a medical checkup is a necessary step in evaluating if the team should move forward with contract negotiations at all.
Now a couple months removed from the end of the season, the Lions want to see where Delmas is health-wise:
Detroit flew in safety Louis Delmas for a physical today. Could heat up negotiations with Lions before free agency.

The Lions have not indicated which way they are leaning with Delmas set to become an unrestricted free agent in just a matter of days. Should he check out medically, look for the Lions to make an attempt to keep Delmas in the fold before he is able to sign elsewhere next Tuesday.
