Justin Durant Wants to Be Back With Detroit Lions

Justin Durant is one of many Detroit Lions without a contract for next year. According to some recent statements, it is clear Durant wants to be with the Lions next year despite not really knowing what will happen:

“I want to sign,” Durant said. “Am I sure? No. I don’t know exactly what’s going to happen. Free agency is a different type of process. You never know what’s going to happen. I’m definitely just anxious to see.

“Hopefully we get something worked out to where I’m back in Detroit. I love the city, I love the fans, love playing there.”

Durant signed a two year, $5.5 million deal with the Lions prior to the 2011 season and his good play with the Lions might push that number higher. If so, it could push it out of the Lions’ price range given their tight salary cap situation.

Both of the Lions’ starting outside linebackers are heading towards free agency and if they can only afford to re-sign one it should be Durant over DeAndre Levy. Durant was one of the team’s best run defenders a year ago and has consistently outperformed Levy in the two years they have played together.
