The season didn’t get off to the start many expected as Matthew Stafford struggled early in the opener against the St. Louis Rams. Still, the Lions were able to escape with a victory to start 1-0, no matter how ugly it might have looked.
The Lions then traveled to San Francisco, a big game that was made bigger following last year’s handshake shenanigans between Jim Schwartz and Jim Harbaugh. Fittingly enough, Tom Coughlin and Greg Schiano had their own handshake drama before the Lions and 49ers met on Sunday Night Football. The Niners defense came up big to limit the Lions offense, sending the Lions to a not-unexpected 1-1 start.
Mikel Leshore returned to practice following his two game suspension and had a solid debut in a wild loss to the Tennessee Titans. It was a step in the wrong direction, an issue compounded by following it up with a home loss to the Vikings with another terrible special teams performance.
A 1-3 start through the first month of the season is not what the Lions had in mind.
