The Detroit Lions got back on the practice field today in preparation for Saturday night’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. News broke earlier in the day that defensive tackle Nick Fairley‘s season was over after being placed on injured reserve. Two other Lions did not practice today due to injuries of their own.

Brandon Pettigrew (ankle) missed Sunday’s game against the Arizona Cardinals and still is not able to practice. That’s not a good sign for hopes that he can return against the Falcons. With the Lions stretched thin at wide receiver, Pettigrew’s return would be a welcomed sight.

Also missing practice today was safety Louis Delmas. He was able to play last week so today may have been more of a rest day than anything else but that remains to be seen. Take it as a bad sign if Delmas misses practice all week.

Calvin Johnson (knee), Mikel Leshoure (calf) and DeAndre Levy (ankle) practiced today but had their reps limited. The Lions have been careful with Johnson all season long and it has resulted in what may go down as the best season for a wide receiver in NFL history. His place on the injury report is not cause for concern for those wanting to see CJ break Jerry Rice‘s single-season receiving yards record.

Don Carey (knee) and Chris Houston (hamstring) were also named on the injury report but they were able to practice without limitations.
