The Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers both got off to slow starts this season. Both appeared to have things turned around but the Lions fell back into their old ways in last week’s loss to the Vikings.

Now, the Lions face a virtual must-win if they are to have any hope of salvaging their season, if it isn’t too late already. The schedule doesn’t get any easier as the Lions finish with five of their last seven games against likely playoff teams. Will desperation finally sink in?

The sports books have an uncanny ability of “knowing” things and provide an interesting first look at any matchup.

The early betting line has installed the Packers as road favorites over the Lions. The line currently sits at 3 points in the Packers’ favor with an over/under set at 51.5 total points.

My early inclination is to take the Packers minus the points and pick the game to go over the 51.5 point total. The Packers rarely struggle to score points and the Lions offense figures to get a boost playing in front of their home crowd at the start of a three-game home stand. Still, the Packers have to be regarded as the likely victor and three points just isn’t enough for me to feel good about taking.

How would you bet?
