The Detroit Lions previously ruled out the return of Jahvid Best from the PUP list and yesterday they did the same with rookie cornerback Chris Greenwood.

Greenwood had surgery to repair a sports hernia during training camp and returned to practice when eligible by PUP list rules a couple weeks ago. But the missed time ended up being too much to overcome according to Jim Schwartz:

“Missing training camp was probably the biggest thing for him,” Lions coach Jim Schwartz said on Monday. “During the season, he’s done a good job preparing and staying involved in the meetings and stuff like that, but training camp is probably the thing that, when it’s all said and one, will be the opportunity he missed the most.”

The Lions took Greenwood out of Albion College in the fifth round of the 2012 draft and expected him to be somewhat of a project. From that standpoint it isn’t a lost season but the missed time is certainly not an aid in his development. He will be back on the field for organized team activities during the offseason.
