Rookie cornerback Bill Bentley showed some promise when he was able to stay on the field but injuries have hampered his ability to play and now injuries will cost him the rest of the season.
The Detroit Lions announced today that Bentely, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury, has been placed on injured reserve, ending his season. Each team has the ability to put one player on IR and designate him to return but the Lions already used that option with Drayton Florence earlier this season. Florence is back at practice but not eligible to return to play for another week. At least in the interim, the Lions have brought back cornerback Don Carey who spent some time with the Lions last season and through training camp this past summer.
Bentley will undergo shoulder surgery next week. Despite the setbacks due to injury, Bentley figures to play a prominent role when he returns to the Lions next season.
