Detroit Lions Without Many Regulars at Practice Today

The list of players that missed practice today for the Detroit Lions reads a lot more like a starting lineup. Calvin Johnson, Mikel Leshoure, Louis Delmas, Amari Spievey, Cliff Avril, Corey Williams, DeAndre Levy and Bill Bentley are all out today.

Fortunately, it isn’t all injury related. Mikel Leshoure has been given the day off for personal reasons and will return to practice tomorrow. Newly acquired wide receiver Mike Thomas is in town but is not yet practicing with the team as he undergoes his initial physical with team doctors.

The bulk of the rest of the list is likely getting a rest day as it is early in the week. Calvin Johnson, Louis Delmas, Cliff Avril and Corey Williams have all been given practice days off in the past as they’ve dealt with various ailments.

The condition of Amari Spievey, DeAndre Levy and Bill Bentley warrant more careful observation over the week as each have missed recent game action as a result of injuries.

The team’s first official injury report for week nine will be released later this afternoon.
