Playing their first game since losing Nate Burleson for the season due to a broken leg, the Lions needed someone to step up and that is exactly what happened in Sunday’s win over the Seattle Seahawks. For that reason, Titus Young earns the SideLion Report game ball for week eight.
The Lions offense has had a hard time getting going early in games this year as it seems that a higher percentage of Stafford’s throws have been off target and Lions receivers are dropping an alarming number of passes when they are on target. Neither was a problem when throwing in Young’s direction against the Seahawks. Stafford targeted Young with nine passes leading to nine completions for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Young has been maddeningly inconsistent, even to the point of looking disinterested at times this season. But when the Lions needed him most, Young was there with his best game of his career to date.
His nine catches broke his previous single-game high of seven set last year in Chicago while his 100 yards receiving broke his previous high of 89 set last year in week two against Kansas City. This was Young’s second two-touchdown game. His other game in Green Bay last season.
Much was expected of Titus Young heading into this year. Hopefully Sunday’s performance is just the first of what will be many down the stretch.
