Detroit Lions Could Get Louis Delmas Back After Bye Week

There is finally some good news concerning the status of Louis Delmas; he’s back at practice. Getting back on the practice field is an important first step and a good indication that he could play when the Lions return from their bye to face the Philadelphia Eagles but it is only a first step. The key will be to see how the knee feels after the workout.

The Lions’ situation at safety has been a mess through four weeks. Amari Spievey wasn’t able to beat out Erik Coleman or John Wendling for a starting spot at the start of the regular season then an injury forced him out completely last week. That necessitated bringing Ricardo Silva up from the practice squad. Getting Delmas back won’t solve all the problems but it is a big start.

Delmas was back but Cliff Avril, Bill Bentley, Justin Durant, Brandon Pettigrew, Dominic Raiola, Rob Sims, Stephen Tulloch, John Wendling and Corey Williams were not practicing during the 30-minute window open to viewing by the media. It’s a long list but not particularly concerning considering the Lions have their bye this week. Many of these players should return to practice next week when preparations for the Eagles being in earnest.
