The Detroit Lions are finally good enough where they can routinely draw a top-half broadcast team. Unfortunately, they aren’t typically one of the top two games of the week on FOX or CBS and that means they’ve ended up with Thom Brennaman quite a bit over the last two years.

It will be Brennaman on the call when the Lions host the Vikings on Sunday. It was in that matchup a year ago that Brennaman offered an exasperated exclamation of “FINALLY!” when the Lions were flagged for a personal foul. It apparently was a theme he wanted to harp on but hadn’t been given his chance until that flag flew. Stick to the play-by-play, Thom.

The broadcast team sounds a lot better when Brennaman steps off his soapbox and lets former Ravens coach Brian Billick offer his insights and analysis. Needless to say, Billick is much better than Mike Martz who was the analyst in the booth for last week’s Lions game.

The Detroit and Minneapolis markets are set to receive the same slate of games on Sunday. The Lions and Vikings will fill the early slot on FOX while the late time slot will feature Oakland at Denver on CBS (Jim Nantz, Phil Simms) and New Orleans at Green Bay on FOX (Joe Buck, Troy Aikman).
