Knee Surgery Knocks Corey Williams Out Of Game Against Vikings

The good news of Matthew Stafford’s return to Detroit Lions’ practice was offset somewhat by the news that defensive tackle Corey Williams underwent a knee procedure and will not play against the Vikings.

Jim Schwartz gave Williams the dreaded “week-to-week” designation, the same he has used when discussing the status of Louis Delmas who has been out since early August. The Lions have their bye week following their game against the Vikings. While the early bye is not usually a good thing, it seems to be coming at a good time for the Lions.

It is not yet known who will replace Williams in the starting lineup. Nick Fairley and Sammie Hill are candidates, although both figure to see an increase in playing time no matter who draws the start. Sunday’s game will be a glimpse into the future as Corey Williams is the oldest member of the Lions’ defensive tackle rotation.
