Matthew Stafford Reportedly Dealing With a Hamstring Issue

Jim Schwartz did not offer up much on Matthew Stafford’s injury during his weekly press conference. That is not surprising considering he has always kept such information close to the vest.

Information may not be available through Schwartz but Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio was able to at least get something from someone:

Per a league source, Stafford has a hamstring issue. For now, the expectation is that he should be OK.

The “for now” is the scary part.

Hamstring issues can be tricky. Remember, it was a hamstring issue that cost Mikel Leshoure a few weeks during training camp. Just when you think it is getting better it might tighten up or pull yet again. It obviously turned into a big issue on Sunday, Shaun Hill wouldn’t have been in the game if it wasn’t. Will this heal during the week or will it become one of those nagging issues that keeps the Lions from reaching their potential? That wide gap in possible outcomes necessitates the “for now.”

The first injury report of the week comes out on Wednesday afternoon so it will probably be a couple days until more is known. At least at that point we will be able to see if Stafford is able to practice at all. Even practicing on a limited basis will be a positive step.
