The Detroit Lions have announced their claim of cornerback Jerome Murphy who was waived by the New Orleans Saints yesterday. Kevin Barnes was waived to make room on the roster despite spending a short time with the team following a training camp trade with the Redskins.
Murphy was originally a third-round draft pick of the St. Louis Rams in 2010. He appeared in 14 games for the Rams as a rookie but missed the 2011 season with a broken ankle. St. Louis waived him earlier this month but was claimed by the New Orleans Saints and appeared in two games.
The Lions gave up a conditional pick in the trade for Kevin Barnes but league sources tell DetroitLions.com’s Tim Twentyman that the team will no longer be on the hook for that pick.
